Video or phone consultation for mental health professionals who work with military members and veterans, first responders, and other trauma populations.
As a therapist, working with severe trauma can be challenging, especially when your training doesn’t prepare you for what you actually see in practice.
If you work with military members, veterans, or first responders, this adds another layer of complexity. The severity of the operational stress injuries these clients often endure requires an analytical depth that standard training rarely provides. Each field also carries its own subculture, rank dynamics, and stress points.
The extent of these clients’ trauma and the particular culture they come from together shape how you approach treatment.
You may benefit from my consultation services if:
- The trauma protocols you trained in are not adequate for complex cases
- You’re frustrated when clients are not fully engaged in therapy or suddenly drop out
- You’ve tried a peer consultation group, but it lacked the level of support or expertise you need
- You feel isolated in your work and want access to someone with extensive expertise in complex trauma or high-intensity military and first-responder trauma
- You feel out of your depth working with the complex trauma of RCMP, military, or other first-responders and their unique cultures
- You struggle with clients who have entrenched, self-protective boundaries or avoidance patterns
- You’re frustrated by systemic deadlocks and institutional betrayal in your work with trauma clients
- You feel vicariously traumatized or burned out from the intensity of trauma work
Over 2 Decades of Experience with Complex and High-Intensity Trauma
I have 24 years of clinical experience working with complex trauma, PTSD, and mood and anxiety disorders with a range of populations.
For 17 of those years, I’ve provided psychological assessment and trauma treatment to military members, veterans, and first responders.
Through this work, I’ve developed deep insight into their distinct operational cultures and how these can influence communication, engagement, and treatment.
This experience has also given me an in-depth understanding of the most severe forms of trauma and the challenges they can present in treatment.
In addition to my work as a therapist, I’m experienced in supporting other therapists, through mentoring, teaching, and leading workshops.
I’ve lived on 4 continents and speak 4 languages, giving me direct experience of how different ethnic and geographical cultures can shape a client’s experiences and perspectives.
My style is direct, structured, and focused on problem-solving. Whether you need help with case conceptualization, treatment strategies, cultural considerations, or a challenging clinical situation, you’ll leave each consultation session with clear, actionable strategies to implement with your clients.
Depending on the issues you bring to consultation, you can gain:
- A clearer understanding of your client’s difficulties and what to prioritize in treatment
- Practical strategies for moving treatment forward when you’re feeling stuck with a complex case
- An understanding of why a client may not be progressing or fully engaging in the therapy process
- Greater ability to adapt your approach when standard trauma protocols aren’t working
- A deeper understanding of military and first-responder cultures and how to adapt your approach when needed
- More confidence in your clinical judgment and decision-making with intensely traumatized clients
Whatever challenges you’re facing, you’ll have access to the expertise I’ve developed working with some of the most complex cases that show up in a therapist’s office.
