Psychological Services

Assessments

Assessment services are only provided for Veterans Affairs Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

I provide the VAC disability benefit award assessment for RCMP regular and civilian members and RCMP and CAF veterans. The purpose of this assessment is to gain a better understanding of a member’s or veteran’s social, occupational and emotional functioning, provide a psychological diagnosis (if relevant), and provide treatment recommendations. It is important that these psychological injuries are documented so that when you release/retire, you can access counselling and other mental health-related benefits as a veteran.

You do not need to already be working with a psychologist to complete this assessment with me.

Please note that I do not provide the VAC disability benefit award re-assessment.

Please contact my office for more information regarding VAC assessments and re-assessments or to schedule your appointment.

Counselling

I conduct individual therapy with adults. I do not provide individual therapy to children or adolescents, nor do I provide couples or family therapy.

I begin with a thorough assessment of your symptoms (which typically takes one to three sessions) to ensure that the problem(s) and issue(s) are correctly identified. Based on this initial assessment, I will propose a specific treatment plan for you. The treatment plan will be tailored to suit your specific needs. I welcome your questions, concerns, and feedback along the way. If the treatment plan needs to be changed, we will discuss this together.

My primary treatment areas include:

  • Operational stress injuries
  • First responders, second responders, military, and veterans
  • Anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Phobias
  • Trauma (including childhood/developmental trauma and medical trauma)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Depression
  • Chronic pain
  • Life transitions
  • Grief and loss
  • Low self-esteem
  • Low self-confidence
  • Work-related stress

I use the following approaches in my practice:

  • Brainspotting (BSP)
    • Brainspotting explained
    • Brainspotting: Healing Disorders of Stress and Trauma
  • Clinical Hypnosis
  • Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
  • Exposure Response Prevention
  • Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Mindfulness
  • Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
  • Solution-Focused Therapy

When my clients finish counselling, they often feel calmer, more confident, and better able to cope with stress. They’re equipped with effective techniques they can use for the rest of their lives.
